When should your child have an orthodontic evaluation?
The ideal time for a first examination by a specialist in orthodontics (CH) is around the age of 9 years. A referral from a general dentist is not necessary.
Orthodontic specialist title in Switzerland
Swiss specialist dentists in orthodontics (CH) are specialized dentists who focus on correcting dental and jaw misalignments. The Swiss Society for Orthodontics (SGK) oversees their training and final examinations.
To earn the Swiss specialist title, the following requirements must be met:
Completion of dental studies with a federal state examination
Membership in the Swiss Dental Association SSO
The specialist training lasts a total of four years. During the first three years, specialized training is conducted at an orthodontic clinic at a Swiss university center. The fourth year focuses on deepening general dental medicine.
To qualify as a specialist in orthodontics, four fully documented treatment cases covering the entire spectrum of orthodontics, a theoretical examination, and a publication must be submitted for evaluation to a review committee of the SGK Specialization Commission.
